Established in 1949, the San Juan National Historic Site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The park was founded with the main aim of protecting the monuments as well as their architectural value and includes colonial forts, bastions, fortifications and much more. It is also among the only 12 national parks in the United States listed as World Heritage Sites.
Guided tours of the forts of El Morro, San Cristobal and El Canuelo, all located in the park, are available. Visitors get to see the beautiful and traditional architecture which makes the trip worthwhile.
Featuring visual presentations, exhibitions and a bookshop is the visitor centre located in the fort of San Cristobal. Kite flying is a favoured activity around the El Morro fort. |
