The John Muir National Historic Site is a protected area that was established on 31 August 1964; it houses the bungalow of the renowned author and environmentalist John Muir. The Victorian-style house is an architectural masterpiece and a landmark of California.
To start with one can go to the visitor centre where a short film about John Muir’s life is screened and information about the area is made available. The management of this historical site organises Wildflower Walks, Full Moon Walks and Bird Walks for the visitors. The Martinez Adobe is worth visiting as it displays collections from John Muir’s life, the Martinez family and the early history of California. Mount Wanda, 640 feet in height, is a great place to spend a day, albeit camping is not allowed. |
