| Attractions and things to do |
This protected area served as a War Relocation Centre during the Second World War where approximately 110,000 people had been detained in 1942. Initially, this place was home to the Paiute tribe of the Owen Valley who were removed from here during the Second World War. It was declared a national historic site in 1992.
The Manzanar National Historic Site has a few centres that house permanent exhibits which tell the painful stories of the internees and the Paiute people. On the last Saturday of April a pilgrimage is organised to commemorate the troubles that the people at the camp had gone through. Some of the places of interest in here are the administrative complex, the camp cemetery and the auditorium. |
