| Attractions and things to do |
Yucca House National Monument was established on 19 December 1919. The monument is one of the largest and most important archaeological sites in southwest Colorado. The name Yucca House comes from the yucca trees that grow in abundance in the region. The most important collection at the monument is the unexcavated Puebloan valley. The scenic beauty of the site is simply enchanting. The Yucca House, built mainly of limestone, attracts a lot of tourists from the world over. The West Complex is a large Pueblo with almost 600 rooms that might have served the whole community.
The National Park Service, however, does not recommend a casual visit to the park as basic facilities are not available. Also, the road is inaccessible during the monsoon season due to dirt and dust. |
