| Attractions and things to do |
One of the two national parks in the Hawaiian Islands, the Haleakala National Park is a designated International Biosphere Reserve. The park has two distinct areas: the summit area and the coastal Kipahulu area, both of which receive several visitors annually. The park is located on different altitudes, owing to which there is variety in the forest habitats.
The park also features one of the most spectacular volcanic craters in the world, the Haleakala Crater. The scenic drives, the natural beauty and the Hawaiian nene geese make the trip worthwhile. The Halemau and the Sliding Sands trails lead into the crater.
The Hosmer Grove is another attraction of the park which is an unusual forest area filled with exotic vegetation like deodar, sugi and more. |
