Dedicated in 1962, it was opened to public in 1980 and is managed by the National Park Service. One of the major tourist destinations in Hawaii, the USS Arizona Memorial receives millions of visitors annually and is a solemn experience with over 1000 graves of sailors who lost their lives being located here.
It consists of three main areas: national memorial entry, assembly room and shrine. The area preserves the wrecks of the sunken decks of the attack and the marble walls of the rooms are inscribed with the names of those killed in the attack.
The USS Arizona Memorial Museum is a significant part of the memorial area. The museum offers orientations, exhibitions, relics and documents. Also, tourists can visit the Remembrance Circle which is a waterfront memorial.
