Having served as a landmark since the nineteenth century, it was designated as a National Historic Site in 1956. This unique formation, the most noted on the Oregon Trail, has become one of the most famous landmarks in Western America. It has also become the symbol of the voluntary migration of the nineteenth century.
Apart from the spectacular rock formation, this historic site also has the Ethel and Christopher J Abbot Visitor Centre which features regular exhibits explaining the famous migration.
Also, a lot of interesting information about the rock is available in the form of digital exhibitions consisting of photographs, documents, artefacts and more. Apart from that guided tours of the entire region are also available for the visitors. |
