New Mexico: Introduction and History

New Mexico, USA has an area of 315,194 sq km and about 1,928,400 inhabitants. Its capital is Santa Fe.

New Mexico shares its borders with the American states of Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Utah and Arizona. From deserts to high mesas to snow-capped peaks, New Mexico has wide variations in its topography.

Native Americans constitute majority of New Mexico’s population. Therefore, American Indian Culture is predominant in the region. There are some New Mexicans that speak a special dialect of Spanish—New Mexican Spanish. New Mexican culture is the result of the confluence of Spanish, Mexican, Native American and Anglo-American culture.
