North Carolina: Introduction and History

North Carolina, USA has an area of 139,509 sq km. It has about 8,049,300 inhabitants, with Raleigh as its capital. 

Surrounded by South Carolina in the south, Georgia in the south-west, Tennessee in the west, Virginia in the north and Atlantic Ocean in the east, North Carolina lies in the southern part of the country. The state is divided into three distinct regions—the Coastal Plain, the Piedmont Plateau and the Appalachian Mountains.

The state holds the distinction of being the nation’s largest furniture, tobacco, brick, and textile producer. North Carolina has also long been involved in the textile manufacturing, producing cotton, synthetic and silk goods.
