North Dakota: Introduction and History

North Dakota has a total land area of 183,272 sq km. Bismarck is the capital city while the population is about 642,200.

The state of North Dakota includes the Great Plains and the northern part of the Badlands. White Butte is the highest point in the region. The Missouri River flows through the western part of North Dakota. Lake Sakakawea, the third largest man made lake in the US, is located here in North Dakota.

Majority of the population are descendants of Scandinavian and German immigrants. North Dakota has a strong religious culture, having the most number of churches per capita and the highest percentage of church going population of any state.
