Mesa is situated in Maricopa County in Arizona, USA. The city has a total population of 447,000 inhabitants and is spread over an area of 324 sq km. The earliest settlers in Mesa were people from the Hohokam tribe; the first Europeans to discover this region were the Spanish.
Mesa has a very pleasant climate throughout the year. The maximum average temperature remains at around 30°C, and the humidity is also very low. The topography of this city consists mainly of plateaus (mesa means ‘table top’ in Spanish), steep cliffs, forests, lakes, arid areas and so forth. Superstition Mountains are the most striking landmark in the city, attracting thousands of tourists annually.
The city’s economy is largely dependent on the education sector and the aeronautical industry. The tourism industry is also an important contributor to Mesa’s economy. The public schools in Mesa are the biggest employers in the city.
