Red Mountain is also known as Mount McDowell and is situated on the Salt River Indian Reservation. It is to the north of Mesa in Arizona. The mountain is named after General, Irvin McDowell, who was a Union officer in the Civil War. 2,860 feet high, it is also known by the name Fire Rock and is photogenic.  Hiking is not permitted here and so it is difficult to photograph.
