Things to Do in Monument Valley, Arizona: attractions to See in Monument Valley

Monument Valley: Attractions and more...

Monument Valley falls under the Navajo Indian Reservation and is close to the quaint Indian town of Goulding. The town was a trading post in the early nineteenth century and now caters to tourists who come here to experience the Navajo way of life.

At the laid-back Mitten Campground, one can come across a number of picnic tables set against the backdrop of the charming Visitor Center. For a better view of Monument Valley, head for the Valley Drive (a nearly 30 km long dirt road which winds its way through the mesas and sandstone cliffs that tower over the landscape). As one approaches the valley from the north, this stretch is seen as a long, straight road leading into the flat desert with 300 m mountains visible in the distance.

If you’ve got a penchant for photography, a few shots of East and West Mitten Buttes and Merrick Butte are a dream come true. Equally photogenic is the Totem Pole, a spectacular narrow rock spire almost 100 m high.
