Named after the fabled lost gold mine, the Lost Dutchman State Park is a 320-acre state park in central Arizona and about 40 miles east of Phoenix.  Beautiful views, a challenging but well maintained trail lined with wildflowers is the perfect challenge for the whole family looking to hike in one of the country’s most breathtaking areas.

Great as a day trip for anyone looking to do something outside of Phoenix, the park is easily accessible with campground facilities for anyone looking to make an overnight trip.  The park also offers a variety of hiking trails, nature trails, picnic facilities, a dump station, restrooms, showers, and group use areas.  A nearby visitor center provides maps and other publications about the area.

The park was scheduled to close in June 2010, but an $8,000 donation from an anonymous donor from Katy, Texas helped keep the park open.  The park is open weekdays from 6:00am to 10:00pm.  Visitors are advised to bring enough water and proper footwear as the trails are steep and challenging.  For more information, call (480) 982-4485.
