Phoenix’s Orpheum Theatre is a small theatre with the capacity of only 1364. Originally used for a variety of shows, the theater was part of the Orpheum Theatre chain. It began and finished construction in 1927 and 1929 respectively and was designed by architects Lescher & Mahoney. Later, Paramount Pictures bought the theater in the 1940s and re-named it The Paramount and was again renamed under another ownership as Palace West. The Orpheum Theatre presently occupies the Phoenix Metropolitan Opera and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.
