The Arizona State Museum was founded by the Territorial Authority in 1894 for the collection and protection of archeological sources, and is currently operated by the University of Arizona,
The Museum holds artifacts created by native american cultures of the past as well as those presently active, including pottery, textiles and jewelry unearthed during excavations by museum staff and others. More artifacts have been acquired through donations from Native American tribes and acquired from private collectors.
The Museum has a large library and provides education opportunities to students in archaeology, anthropology and other subjects, including the chance to participate in excavation missions conducted my the Museum
