The Jewish History Museum, formerly known as the Jewish Heritage Center of the Southwest is housed in an historic synagogue building . The museum's building is actually the oldest synagogue ever built in the Arizona Territory.
The building, called Stone Avenue Temple, was built in 1910 by architect Ely Blount and is a brick structure with a Greek-Revival facade. The original stained windows have long been lost. The building itself is listed in the National Register of Historical Places and received the National Preservation Honor Award by the National Trustfor Historic Preservation.
The museum, created in 2005, in addition to its permanent collection hosts exhibitions, lectures and religious events such as Bar Mitzva services.
