Attractions
The north-western Ozarks and the central region of Arkansas have a large community of European-ancestry residents, while the southern and eastern parts of the state are home to a sizeable African American population. Arkansas has produced eminent personalities, of which the most famous is Bill Clinton, the 42nd President of America.
Popular attractions in the state include the Arkansas State Capitol (built as a smaller-scale replica of the US Capitol). The capital city is home to the Little Rock Zoo (the only zoo in the state), the Mosaic Templars Cultural Centre (which explores African American heritage and culture), and the Aerospace Education Centre (boasting a 300-seat IMAX theatre and a range of aviation exhibits). Natural attractions in the state include the Blanchard Springs Caverns, the Buffalo National River and the Bull Shoals Caverns.
One of the largest events in the state is the Arkansas State Fair (held in October) which features a Livestock Show and 10 acres of carnival rides and food. The Little Rock Marathon is held annually in the capital city. Festivals like the Summer Solstice Celebration (in June), the Annual Butterfly Festival at Mount Magazine State Park and the Fireworks Extravaganza (in early July) at Sandy Beach draw a lot of crowds to the state.
