Batesville can be referred to as a city located in Independence County, Arkansas. It is the ‘county seat’ of Arkansas; located at a distance of 183 Km on the north eastern side of ‘Little Rock’, i.e. state capital. This city acts as a manufacturing as well as distribution hub with regards to northeast Arkansas and Ozark Mountain region.
As per US Census Bureau, Batesville’s area is 27.5 sq.Km, out of which 27 Kms consist of land.
As per 2005 census, the population was around 9556.
The city exists under 3 names: Poke Creek, Napoleon, and Batesville to honor Judge ‘James Woodson Bates’, the 1st territorial delegate from Congress. He migrated to Batesville during the early 19th century and emerged out to be the community’s most prominent citizen for the next 15 years (1819-1834). His sibling, Honorable ‘Edward bates’ was appointed Attorney General when Lincoln had presided over America. Both brothers had originally hailed from Virginia.
