Billings is the largest city in the U.S. state of Montana.
As of the 2000 census, the city had a total population of 89,847 and a 2006 census estimate indicates the city's population has grown to 100,148.
Billings is situated in the county seat of Yellowstone County and is the principal city of the Billings Metropolitan Area. It is also named as the ‘Magic City’, because of its fast growth and development from a railroad town in 1882 to its present day status.
Billings is named after Frederick H. Billings, President of the Northern Pacific Railroad.
In the summer, the temperature can rise to over 100 °F (38 °C) while the winter can bring temperatures below zero. Autumn in Billings is usually mild.
There are a number of activities in and around Billings, from hiking, rock climbing, mountain climbing, fishing, art walks, food fairs to rodeos.
