The art deco building of North Dakota State Capitol, built using wood and materials from different states, symbolises the government’s power. A must visit is the Theodore Roosevelt Rough Rider Hall of Fame in the State Capitol. Visit the Hancock State Historic Site, which includes, apart from a museum on military life, Bismarck’s first Episcopal Church.
The North Dakota Heritage Centre is the largest museum in the state, featuring the Sakakawea Statue and a huge collection of Plains Indians artefacts. Animal lovers should visit the Dakota Zoo, home to more than 125 species of birds, reptiles and mammals.
Visitors must take a paddlewheel cruise of the Missouri River offered by the Lewis and Clark Riverboat. Bismarck also provides the opportunity to indulge in hiking, golf (having nine golf courses), fishing and hunting.
September is the festive month with the largest Native American cultural event—the annual United Tribes Pow Wow.
