Most of the city’s popular attractions are situated in or around its famed floating harbour. The SS Great Britain, one of the oldest passenger liners in the world, has been stationed in a dry dock near the harbour. It used to be known as the ‘floating palace’.
Berkeley Castle is England’s oldest inhabited castle and displays several priceless artefacts. The butterfly house, well-manicured gardens and the cells and dungeons are worth a visit. The Bristol Cathedral is considered to be one of the best examples of a hall church in the world. Bristol is also home to one of the finest Gothic churches in the country, St. Mary Redcliffe Church.
The historic Roman city of Bath is close to Bristol, and with its fine spas and grand architecture, it makes for a good one-day trip. The rolling countryside of the Cotswolds dotted with picturesque villages can also be explored from Bristol.
