Alameda can be referred to as a city located in ‘Alameda County, California, US’. It stands on a tiny island that has the same name as it adjoining Oakland within the ‘San Francisco Bay’.
Bay Farm Island that is flanking Oakland International Airport is the other portion of this city. Alameda stands out from the other cities due to its 3-lined neighborhoods and Victorian Homes. Alameda can be called a ‘charter city’, instead of being called a ‘general law city’. This can be attributed to the fact that government of any form can be provided in this city. This adoption took place in the year 1916; which has still been retained.
As far as area is concerned, Alameda constitutes 10.8 sq. Km of land and 31.5 sq. Km of water.
The present scenario is such that this city comprises of major original section, along with western side consisting of former NAS, i.e. Naval Air Station. This area is called ‘Alameda Point’.
The climate is quite humid.
The population as per 2000 census was 72259.
