Arcata is a small city which is situated near the Arcata Bay in Humboldt County in California. The city covers a total area of 11 square miles out of which 9.2 sq miles is covered by land and the rest by water. The city had a population count of 17,294 inhabitants as per the 2006 census. The climate is of a coastal type since it lies near the Pacific Ocean and the Humboldt Bay. There may be fogs in the summer and the region gets around 50 inches of rainfall annually. The city is a classic example of a traditional ‘college town’ with the Humboldt State University (the oldest colleges in California) and the city population consisting mainly of students. The city maintains its Victorian architecture and small town charm. The Redwood Park is a place to enjoy activities like hiking or mountain biking.
