Artesia is a city in the southeast of Los Angeles County in California in USA. The city was incorporated on 29th May 1959 and covers a total area of 1.6 square miles, all of which is made of land. The city is surrounded by Norwalk to the north and Cerritos on the east, west and south. Artesia had a population of 16,380 inhabitants as per the 2000 census. The cost of living here is 32.7%25 higher than the US average. The city experiences a hot and dry climate with 287 sunny days in a year on an average. July is the highest with 82 degrees and January the lowest with 46 degrees. The city does not get snowfall and rainfall is 12 inches per year. The city was named after the Artesian wells in the region, which developed rapidly due to its rich soil and abundant water supply. Farming and poultry raising were the main occupation of the people. Chrysanthemum is the national flower of the region.
