Fairfield lies in the north east of the San Francisco Bay region in northern California in the United States. The areas in close proximity to the region include the Napa Valley, Sacramento, San Francisco and Oakland.
The city has a total area of 37.7 sq miles and a population of 96,178 as per the 2000 census. Being in the northern region of California the city experiences an oceanic climate with cool winters and warm summers which are both mild and pleasant.
The rainfall is evenly distributed throughout the year, though the winter months tend to be wetter than the summer months. The city shares its borders with Suisun City and the nearby cities include Vallejo, Vacaville and Benicia.
