Gilroy is the southernmost city located in the Santa Clara County of California in U.S.A. and also in the San Francisco Bay. Consorting to the 2000 Census the city population was found to be around 41,464 and has arisen to 51,173 according to the California Department of Finance in 2008 thus making it the 170th largest city in California. Gilroy is very well known for its garlic crop and the Gilroy Garlic Festival held every year features several garlic foods including ice cream. Thus it is also well known by its nickname "Garlic Capital of the World". It also produces mushrooms in significant amount. The city has a total area of 41.1 km² of which 41.1 km² of it is land and merely 0.06% is water. There are many theme parks and recreation areas located here thus making it an attractive tourist place in the state. Temperature ranges from an average summer maximal of 32 degrees to a mean winter low of 0.6 degrees. Snowfall is very rare and short lived when they occur.
