Hsi Lai Temple can be described as one of the conventional ‘Chinese Buddhist’ mountain monastery within the US. The name ‘His Lai’, in actual sense, means ‘Coming West’, with reference to ‘Great Buddhadharma Coming West’. This temple has been affiliated to a recognized religious organization of Taiwan, i.e. Fo Guang Shan Buddhist order. Order members generally call it ‘torch of dharma’.
