Joshua Tree National Park: Attractions and more...
One of the most interesting attractions of the park is the Barker Dam which is a short trail away from the Hidden Valley parking area. The dam has Native American petroglyphs, good opportunities for rock climbing and a nature hike. There also regular tours to the park’s quaint Desert Queen Ranch and the queer stone formation called Skull Rock.
Joshua Tree National Park is an excellent place for rock climbing, hiking and camping. Rocks are not more than 70 m in height, making the routes short and achievable. These activity areas can be easily accessed from some of the nine campgrounds in the park.
Some of the popular hiking trails include Keys View (which has excellent views of the Chocella Valley and takes you to the park’s highest point, Inspiration Point), Ryan Mountain (offers a moderate hike and spectacular views at 1,600 m) and the 1,500 m Lost Horse Mine and Mountain (which has the remains of an old gold-processing mill).
