Long Beach University came into existence in 1949. It was formerly known as Los Angeles Orange County State College. At present, this university developed a nationally renowned College of Arts, College of Engineering which attracts millions of dollars in government contracts and corporate donations. It also includes the College of Health and Human Services, the College of Liberal Arts and the College of Natural Science and Mathematics.
