Getting around the bustling city of Los Angeles can be difficult giving the size, weaving highways and daunting traffic. However, there are means of transportation that tourists can utilize to get around the city more efficiently. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority operates an well-organized bus and metro system that runs throughout the entire downtown area that will get you exactly where you need to go. The base fare for a ride is $1.50, so this option is significantly cheaper than a taxi ride, a most likely quicker during high-traffic hours.
While Los Angeles isn’t generally considered a small enough city to get around easily by foot, the green movement is paving the way for more commuting by walking. If your destination in a dozen or so blocks, consider walking there, especially because you can’t beat the LA weather or the scenery.
If you are willing to brave the infamous weaving freeways of downtown Los Angeles, hop in a cab or rental car and take one of the dozens of crisscrossing freeways. Be warned, however, that rush hour can be known to last from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m and 7:00 p.m.
If you’re looking to take public transportation outside the city, LA’s Union Station can get you onto an Amtrak, Metrolink or Metro Rail train and right on out of the city. The Intercity bus service has a Greyhound Line as well that operates outside of Los Angeles. Whether you are trying to get around the city or get out of it, there’s a way in LA.
