Overlooking the famous Santa Monica Boulevard is an enormous stone white temple topped with a 15½-foot figure of the angel Moroni. The Los Angeles California Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was the first Mormon temple built in the state of California.
Located at 10777 Santa Monica Boulevard, the temple covers an impressive 13 acres of ground, across which you’ll find luscious landscaping of Canary Island Pine trees, palm trees, Ginkgo trees, fountains, a reflection pool and several statues. The beautiful grounds have been a house of worship for Latter-Day Saints in the area since 1951.
The exterior of the building is constructed of Mo-Sai stone facing, a mixture of crushed quartz and white Portland cement. The wainscot around the exterior is Rockville granite from Minnesota. As aforementioned, the famous angel Meroni stands at the highest point of the church facing eastward. Inside the temple, there are four progressive-style ordinance rooms and ten sealing, and the ordinance rooms are ornately decorated with hand-painted murals. A Visitors Center on the grounds provides modern displays for educational enlightenment on the Mormon religion as well as a source for any information you might need.
