The Rampart area in Los Angeles is a densely populated neighborhood in the western part of the city. It gets its name from Rampart Boulevard, which is the main thoroughfare of the neighborhood, which includes the Echo-Park, Pico-Union and Westlake areas of Los Angeles. While Rampart Village is a fine area to live in, it is most recognized for its involvement in a highly publicized corruption scandal. The scandal involved a bank robbery, drug use and a gang shooting in the 1990s; the corruption was aggravated by poor public relations handlings, and the ensuing exposure led to negative consequences, such as a number of films and televisions shows created based on the scandal. Most recently, a movie called Rampart is set to release in 2011 about the scandal. Regardless of diversity in the neighborhood, the single unifying notion surrounding this area is the legacy the scandal left behind. Since then, the community, particularly the police force, has been making strides toward unity among its residents and growth in its youth.
