Established in 1911, Devils Postpile is a national monument park and protects and preserves the Devils Postpile formation. Established by presidential proclamation, it has a 101 foot high rainbow falls with pristine mountain scenery. The formation is a rare sight here in the geologic background and is known as the finest illustrations of columnar basalt in the world. 55 percent of the formation’s columns are six sided. Located at 7,560 feet above sea level, it has typical Sierran summer weather. Here, at the park, there are provisions of campground, hiking and also sightseeing services.
