Monrovia Public Library got established owing to efforts put on by women belonging to Saturday Afternoon Club. In the year 1891, i.e. five years following establishment of Monrovia city, milestone for Monrovia public library was held. Opening on the official level took place on 27th of January, 1908. The collection included 5000 books then. After the passage of 4.5 decades, need for a bigger library arose.
