Morro Rock is Morro Bay’s most attractive offering. The 176 m high volcanic rock, is located at the entrance of Morro Bay’s main harbor. It is also famous for Peregrine Falcon sightings. The rock was previously surrounded by water on all sides and the northern channel was then filled to for the harbor. According to the local community, the rock was quarried between 1889 and 1969. The rock is inaccessible for the public as it acts as a reserve for the extinct peregrine falcon. The area surrounding the rock can be visited. Morro Rock is among the series of similar volcanic rocks called the Nine Sisters.
