Niland is a census designated place in Imperial County in California. It was formerly known as Old Beach, Hobgood and Imperial Junction. It is part of the El Centro, California Metropolitan Statistical Area. Niland was named by the Imperial Farm Lands Association from the Nile Land, a commendatory name for the supposed fertility of the place.
The population of the CDP was 1,143 people as per the 2000 census. In 2009, it reached to 1,184 people. Since 2000, it has had growth in population of 4.55 percent.
Its total area is 0.4 square miles of land. This town is 8 miles to the north of Calipatria and 2 miles to the southeast of Salton Sea.
