Buttercup Valley is a part of the California desert having towering sand dunes. This is around 11,000 acres of valley known as Imperial Sand dunes. Situated ten miles to the southeast of Niland on the Glamis Road, these dunes are designated as Open Area. There are also specified rules for any person to keep an eye out for closed areas towards the south side of the area.
