The Oceanside Pier was first built in the year 1888. This is is known as the longest wooden pier ever on the west United States with a coastline at 1,954 feet, or at 596 meter. It was first built at what is now the Wisconsin Avenue. The original pier however was destroyed by the strong storms in the winter of 1890 and was rebuilt in 1893 by Melchoir Pieper, in its present location, at Pier View Way. At present, in its sixth incarnation, the pier is known as a popular fishing spot and there is also a fifties style diner, named Ruby’s which is situated at the end. This pier is the city’s sixth pier and is situated on Third Street.
