The city of Placerville is situated in El Dorado County, California.It occupies an area of 5.8 square miles of land. The elevation of Placerville is nearly 500 meters and is placed at the foot hills of Sierra Nevada. According to the census reports of 2000, the population of Placerville is 9610. Like any other Californian city, the racial make up of Placerville has a majority of White people. Other races include Asian, Native American, Pacific Islander and Latino or Hispanic races. Placerville derived its name from the placer gold alleviations found in the hills and river beds of the town. It was formerly known as “Hangtown” owing to the several hangings that took place in the city. The average temperature of the city ranges from 350 Fahrenheit to 750 Fahrenheit. Snowfalls are common during winters as the city is placed at higher elevations. Placerville is situated along the U.S Route 50 where it is linked with State Route 49.
