Another famous tourist spot in Placerville is the El Dorado County Historical Museum located near the Fairgrounds of the city. It features a huge collection on genealogy and local history of Placerville. The museum has exhibits on Native American baskets, mining and agricultural aircrafts and Gold Rush displays. It also has displays on railroad equipment including the Shay locomotive.
