The city of Porterville is located in Tulare County in California, United States. The city’s elevation is approximately 455 feet. It occupies an area of 14 square miles and has a population of 39615 as per the 2000 census. The racial composition includes Hispanic, Filipino, White Non- Hispanic, American Indian, Black, Asian and other small tribes. Gradually the population of Porterville grew when it took over the neighboring unincorporated areas.  The city was incorporated in May 7, 1902. Porterville is placed at the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. The climate of Porterville is controlled by the Northwest Prevailing Winds. State 65 and 190 are the major highways in Porterville that connects to Porterville and is linked with Highway 99 towards San Francisco and Los Angeles.
