The city of Poway is located in the county of San Diego. According to the 2000 census the county houses approximately 48,044 residents. The name of the city was derived from a number of terms like Paui, Paguai, Pauy, Powali etc. The exact meaning of the name is uncertain however one American linguist tried to represent it as “here, where the waters meet’. Majority of Poway natives make their livelihood from agriculture. Religious demography of the city contains Catholics, Methodists, Lutherans and Presbyterians. Mormons also form a major part of the religious demography. The city is home to two Catholic Churches St. Gabriel's and St. Michael's Church. Apart from these, the city holds a Reform and a Conservative temple of the Jewish community as well as a Sikh temple. People of Poway are very hospitable and greet visitors with wholehearted joy and pleasure. Poway houses 82.85%25 Whites, 1.67%25 African Americans, 7.46%25 Asians, 0.28%25 Pacific Islanders, 0.48%25 Native Americans and 3.27%25 of other races.
