The Redondo Beach city had established its own library in 1895 and it was the first library in the city used as a sailor’s reading room in a donated building on Wharf No. 1. The library became famous and in 1928, the city initiated into building a separate own library building. This building was designed by architect, Lovel Bearse Pemberton and was built in 1930. In 1931, Redondo Beach library was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
