Tourist Guide Salinas
Salinas is located at one end of the Salinas Valley near the Pacific Ocean. With a population of 148,350, it is the largest municipality of Monterey County in the U.S. state of California.
The Santa Lucia and Gabilan mountain ranges surround the Salinas Valley to the west and east respectively. Salinas has a cool, moderate Mediterranean climate giving a "natural air conditioner" effect. Occasionally there is snowfall on the peaks of the surrounding mountain ranges, but snow in the city itself is very rare.
The annual rainfall for the city is average. Salinas is known as the hometown of famous writer and Nobel Prize winner John Steinbeck. Being an agricultural centre, Salinas Valley is known as "The Salad Bowl of the World" for its production of broccoli, lettuce, strawberries, mushrooms and various crops.
The climate also suits the growth of grape vines and the flowers.
