San Bernardino: Attractions and more...

The Mojave National Preserve, offers various natural vistas including the Kelso Dunes, the Marl Mountains, as well as volcanic formations such as the Hole-in-the-Wall. The reserve is commonly crossed by 4 wheel drive vehicles travelling on the historic Mojave Road. Impressive Joshua Tree forests cover parts of the preserve and one of the forests is the largest in the world. The Joshua Tree National Park includes parts of the Colorado Desert and the Mojave Desert. On the western part of the park, some of the most interesting geologic displays can be found. These include hills of bare rock used for rock climbing and scrambling. Water occurs naturally on five Washingtonia fan palm oases in the park and they are surrounded by wildlife. The Barker Dam provides the best viewing spot for at least 240 species of birds. Calilo and Amboy are famous ghost towns. The Goldstone Deep Space Communications Complex is located in the Mojave Desert and is operated by the ITT Corporation. Its main purpose is to track and communicate with various space missions.
