The mission around which the city sprung up is the major tourist attraction in the city.
The mission which was established by Father Serra, now lies in ruins. The earthquake in 1812 caused major damage to the buildings.
Mission of San Buenaventura, or simply Ventura, is home to some of the best surfing locations in Southern California. The Surfer's Point is the most famous of them all.
The San Buenaventura City Hall is a magnificent neoclassical structure.
The hall was built in 1912. It initially served as the Ventura County Courthouse. Situated on a hillside the city hall overlooks the scenic view of the ocean and old downtown.
Tourists can also view some of the well preserved late 19th century houses at Poli Street.
Ventura County Museum of History and Art exhibits the golden culture and heritage of the city. Tourists can view Native American artefacts in this museum.
