Alcatraz Island is located in the San Francisco Bay, California in the USA.
Alcatraz Island is an important and also popular historical site. Its museum includes the objects that were made by the prisoners of the infamous federal prison, old photographs and documents and the tools that had been used by the inmates to escape from the prison. The lighthouse on this island is also famous as it is the oldest of its kind in the West Coast of America. The Lime Point Military Reservation and Fort Baker are also some of the good sites to be visited.
Besides the places of historical importance, the island also has lots for nature lovers. There are gardens, pools, bays and a range of wildlife. One can find some really unique species of birds at the island like the Brandt’s and pelagic cormorant, Western gull, pigeon guillemot and black oystercatcher.
