The Asian Art Museum in San Francisco holds the largest and most spectacular collection of Asian Art.
The museum was set inside the Golden Gate Park for quite a long time. However, in 2003 it was shifted into the former city library of San Francisco.
The building underwent numerous changes under the guidance of Gae Aulenti, an Italian architect.
Visitors can now see a tastefully renovated art museum here. The museum houses an astonishing collection of more than 17,000 artefacts brought from major countries of Asia. The artefacts and artistic creations exhibit the tradition, culture and heritage of the country they represent.
Some of the artefacts date back 6000 years. The museum is divided into several galleries dedicated to different countries.
These galleries include artwork from Japan, India, Korea, China, South- East Asia and Western Asia. Some of the collections are replaced on regular intervals. Nearly 2,500 artistic creations are kept in the permanent collection.
