USS Pampanito was the ship in the US Navy, which was named after the gaff-topsail pompano.
The ship now serves as a historic landmark and has been converted into a maritime museum. USS Pampanito Maritime Museum is located at Pier 45, Fisherman's Wharf.
The Pampanito is a Balao class submarine in the US Navy fleet. The submarine was used in World War II. It is remembered foundly as she made a vital contribution during the war.
